1st Leaders in Action Luncheon
Good morning staff!
Our 1st Leaders in Action luncheon was such a great success and thank you to the 5th grade teachers for taking the time to get me the names of our 5th grade SBA leaders and also a special thank you to the cafeteria staff for their flexibility and willingness to help make this a very special event. The students really enjoyed it. As you know the next luncheon is set to take place on Friday, September 27. We will be drawing 4 names from each of the boxes for a total of 12 students on Monday September 23rd on Space TV. Please continue to encourage students to practice their 7 habits so that they can have a chance to be a part of this special event!

Columbia is Becoming a 7 Habits School!
Columbia is developing a school program build around Stephen Covey's best-selling book "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. Columbia is using the program to teach principles from the book, including "think win-win" and "synergize." Teachers weave the habits into their lessons daily.

SMART Goals
This year each grade level team will be setting a SMART goal. The key is in creating a SMART goal that will keep the team on track. What is a SMART goal, you ask?
S - Specific: Be clear and unambiguous when setting our goal.
M - Measurable: Set a goal that allows us measurement toward our goals progress.
A - Attainable: Ask ourselves, "Is this realistic and attainable?"
R - Relevant: Create a goal with importance and meaning.
T - Time-bound: Commit to a deadline. Open-ended goals tend to go forgotten.
We all have goals, right? I know our amazing staff does. And there’s nothing quite like the awesome feeling that comes from reaching a goal and finally being able to say, “We did it!” Unfortunately, some goals are harder to achieve than others, and these goals are usually the ones that are the most important to us.

Hannah Skandera Visits Columbia
A message from the Chief
Our challenge and our opportunity is to give every student the chance to be successful. We cannot lose sight of the importance of putting our students first in every decision. The students of New Mexico are nothing short of exceptional and they deserve nothing short of the best.
