Modeling

Modeling is an instructional strategy in which the teacher demonstrates a new concept or approach to learning and students learn by observing.

Shared Reading

Why is Shared Reading quality instruction?
Shared Reading provides rich opportunities for students to discover the pleasures of reading.  Because students gather around the teacher in groups, a sense of community is established and students feel encouraged and confident to read along in an enthusiastic environment.

Aggie Basketball Players Honor Students

The 2013-2014 New Mexico State Aggie Basketball team visited Columbia Elementary today.  They came to our school to honor our student leaders.  As they ate lunch with the students, they had discussions that centered around the 7 Habits.  They also discussed choices that students made to earn an invitation to this special event.  A big thank you to Martina & Tim Gladem for making this happen!

PDSA

Columbia Elementary School has found the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) process to be a great way for students to become directly involved with their learning process.  It empowers them to take charge of their learning.  PDSA has helped to engage students in a way that has transformed their thought processes, and it has made them become more intrinsically motived.  The best part is that students and teachers have become partners in education.  Our teachers have worked with their students to improve key learning processes and improve learning results by using the PDSA process.
